5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Getting Tattooed November 10 2017

5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Getting Tattooed
I have been tattooed by over 20 artists, have over 190 hours worth of tattooing done on me, almost all of which I am content with...Yet I will still will have to end up paying thousands of dollars and a damn lot of time to get my mistakes fixed. Here’s what I wish I knew 5 years ago, and what could have changed my tattoo collection (obviously for the better) had I have known this.
1. Great work isn’t cheap. There are certain things you will frequently find deals on, but tattoos aren’t one of them. I have only stumbled upon a few “deals” for tattoos that would be hard to pass up offered by quality artists. This is because the best artists absolutely know their worth because of how in demand they are and confident in their abilities so they will price accordingly. Tattoos are almost always something that you get what you pay for, and in my opinion you are a lot better off saving up for one good tattoo than getting 5 or 10 crappy ones here and there spending the same you would have on a breathtaking/world class piece.
2 Great artists won’t get you in tomorrow. They just won’t, almost ever. A lot of the best artists out there have multiple month, sometimes even year waiting lists. Some will prioritize pieces and get you in much faster if you request or are willing to get a piece that they are really eager to do, or if you’re a regular client, or if you want large scale stuff... But expect to wait - and in my opinion, the wait can make it even sweeter in the end because of the anticipation and the build up. Be patient, it will be well worth it.
3 Great artists create their best work when you ALLOW them to create and give them some freedom and room to breathe. When I sit back and compare the pieces I’ve gotten that I navigated more than the artist, it’s pretty night and day. I’m not very artistic, I just come up with concepts and placement and let the artist run with it. Sometimes I leave it completely up to the artist what we do and just tell them what’s off limits. Great artists thrive when you let them do their thing. Placement, size, and subject matter should all be discussed with the artist and their opinions should weigh in if you like the work they’ve done before.
4 Planning is CRUCIALI wish I knew that I was going to have a full black/grey bodysuit when I began. I am only keeping the color pieces that are color splashes mixed with black and grey, and it will cost me thousands to battle to remove the full color pieces. Figure out a plan if you are wanting to get a decent amount of work, and take your time doing so before you get hasty because you could end up like me having a few pieces in your collection driving you nuts at times.
5 There’s no rush. Tattooists are only getting better, and they aren’t planning on leaving. The difference in quality of tattoos compared from 5 years ago to now is INSANE, and artists are almost all getting better after each piece. Save your money, research your artists, and plan your collection before making a decision you could regret.
A more in depth video on this subject will be dropping on my Youtube channel sometime soon. Thanks for reading, and I hope this information is helpful to some people. Also, don’t get me wrong - I am extremely happy and content with how my collection is coming along, but like I said…I will be out thousands and thousands because of some of the (very avoidable) big mistakes I have made along the way. #ThinkBeforeYouInk

After winning 3 Grammy’s including best new artist, best rap performance and best rap album, Chance the Rapper is showing that he is a leader in other ways by donating one million dollars to Chicago Public Schools Foundation.

Chance the Rapper is from Chicago, and was concerned about the lack of funds for Chicago schools so he met with Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner last week to discuss funding options- which he called “vague” and “unsuccessful.”  So being the leader that he is, he took matters into his own hands and donated the money calling it a “call to action.”   He called on private businesses and corporations to donate money to the school system, and stated that for every $100,000 in donations he will donate an additional $10,000 to individual schools to further support arts education.

Former first lady Michelle Obama tweeted, “Thanks @chancetherapper for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us so much.  You are an example of the power of arts education.”

Chance said, “This isn’t about politics.  This isn’t about posturing.  Everybody and they momma knows about what’s going on in Chicago.”  (referring to the record-high murder rate)  “It’s constantly talked about.  But we’re about to enhance the conversation.  As a private citizen, as a parent and as a product of CPS, I’m asking that you guys join and fight with me, organize with me, mobilize with me, for the interest of the children of Chicago.  This is the very beginning.” Lead The Followers salutes you Chance the Rapper!  You are a true leader and are making a difference.

Introducing our #QuickstrikeGiveaways !! March 02 2017

As a way to give back to our fans and supporters, we have began a program called #QuickstrikeGiveaways on our Instagram (@leadthefollowers).

The criteria for the comments is subject to change based on the caption, but usually all you will need to do is something simple such as let us know which is your favorite out of the hats shown in the photo, tell us who your favorite rapper/athlete is, tell us where you’re from, etc - stuff like that.

In addition to the main subject of the post, you are always allowed 5 separate comments tagging your friends who you want to introduce to the Lead The Followers movement.

The winners will be randomly selected on our story, and the prizes will usually consist of a hat or tee (subject to change depending on post).

Thank you to all who enter, and good luck!!
