LEADER SPOTLIGHT: Best friends from Compton make good on pact to succeed.” June 09 2016
Leaders typically are people who find a way to get things done rather than an excuse of why they can’t- despite the obstacles in front of them.
That’s exactly what the “Super Six”, a group of girls from Compton,CA have done. They made a pact in middle school to take AP classes and get good grades, and all six recently graduated with exceptionally good grades. Their GPA’s range from 4.3 to 4.5, and they have all been accepted into top universities.
They beat the odds by doing what they did- their school district ranks among the bottom ten percent in the country, and Compton is one of the most violent cities in the nation.
We applaud leaders such as these, and love seeing people set goals and reach them. Although they are leaving Compton for college, they will always remember where they came from. One of the girls said, “I want to come and help my community, counsel juveniles and try to get them an education and make them see that their lives are not over.” Their hope is that their story inspires future students, and shows them that with hard work and dedication they too can defy the odds.
